Evaluation

final edit

This is my final edit of my film title sequence. Since producing the rough cut I have modified the film quite dramatically by removing some titles and including more footage which I filmed after the rough cut deadline.

Rough Cut

This is the rough cut of my film. I have briefly put the clips of footage together along with a couple of titles. I still need to insert a soundtrack and also edit some more footage in order to improve the edit for my final cut. When doing a peer assesment within class i received some constructive cristisism and also some feedback on what aspects of my film were good. For example, most people recognised the varety of shot i had used such as close ups, long shots, shot reverse shot, jump cuts etc. A point in which the audience suggested i should improve upon is removing some of the titles and replace those with actual film footage in order to include a wider variety of shot and also to present the narrative in a more scary and in a typical horror convention.

Changes to Title of film

I have made changes to the title of my film, from 'Into The Dark' to 'MISSING' as looking back, i feel that this title suits the narrative more. I can also make the title of my film look like a missing poster by using the same bold fonts, therefore making the physical case of the film look like and link with the missing posters in the narrative.

The Grudge Timeline Titles Analysis

This is the timeline from the beginning titles of The Grudge. I decided to analyse the beginning titles so that within my film i could place the actors names at the right time and any written narrative. I found that this particular film was different to most horror films in that the titles are much more dominant than in many horrors. In most horrors the titles are very subtle so that all the audience focus is on the actual footage and the scenes in the titles. However, The Grudge used their titles differently and incorporated them into the film in a much more distinct fashion. I found this to be very interesting and plan to use some of the techniques used in this title sequence in my own to make it different to other horror films.

Nine Frame Analysis

How will my film appeal to my demographic audience?

The film i am creating will appeal to my demographic audience as most of the content is relatable to them. In order for a horror film to be successful, it has to have a believable and realistic plot, unless of course it is based on fantasy. Teenagers watch horror movies for entertainment and so as well as sticking to the conventions of horror, the film has to include some form of entertainment value. Also, by using actors/actresses in the film that are a similar age to the demographic i have will enhance how relatable the film will be. The title sequence of the film has to be captivating and entice the viewer whilst not giving away too much of the plot. By introducing the horror in the first few minutes (the title sequence) there is more of a chance of the audience being interested in the film.

Age Rating Of Film & Why?

I have chosen to age rate my film as a 15. I think that my creating a 15 rated film I can still include most elements of horror following the guidelines from BBFC. Arguably, I think that the people who use the cinema the majority of the time are teenagers/young adults. A 15 rated film ensures that the audience I am targeting can view the film in cinemas and therefore ensuring that a maximised profit is obtained from my demographic audience. In addition, the most likely generation that will actually watch horror films are the teenage generation. Although adults do watch them the younger audience more frequently view them. By creating a film with a 15 rating I am able to target my film to a much wider audience whilst remaining in the demographic I have chosen.
